SonWest Roundup VBS Day 5

Yee-haw! It sure has been a fun week at VBS traveling through the Old West.

We have had great fun playing rodeo games while learning our bible verse each night. Tonight we learned John 13:34-35.

"A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know you are my disciples, if you love one another."

This verse was reflected in our new song "The Way We Love."

We had really cute cookies for snack tonight! They were almost too cute to eat. Almost!
We made salvation bracelets in crafts.

We had a lot of fun singing our songs each week. We can keep on singing these scripture verses in the weeks to come.

"HUMC: Connecting People with Christ" is not just a slogan. We were making connections and changing lives!

SonWest Roundup VBS Day 4

Ultimate Trust Tonight we got to hear the story from Exodus 16:1-17:7 of how the Israelites survived in the desert. By providing the Israelites with manna, quail, and water, God showed that He loved them and that they could trust Him everyday for everything. We learned that God also loves us and that we can trust Jesus to take care of us everyday. This message was echoed in our new song "He Will Provide."

Our bible verse tonight was John 6:35, "I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty."

To help us remember that God will provide for us, we made a really cute cactus in crafts. Not only does it fit in our Old West theme, but it also reminds us that God provides what we need (the cactus gets enough water to survive in the very dry desert).

Our games continued to be really fun. Tonight we got to ride these cute horses as we raced around the corral. We also got to take a break for our Mighty Manna popcorn snack.

SonWest Roundup VBS Day 3

Day 3 was pretty exciting, and the church was sure hopping with a lot of children. We have 107 children attending VBS so far this week.

We dug a bit more into Exodus (5:1-12:51) at story time to learn about the plagues God sent on Egypt to convince the Pharaoh to free the Israelites. We learned how God rescued the Israelites from slavery in Egypt. For God's Ultimate Rescue, we learned that Jesus' death and resurrection can rescue us from sin and give us eternal life.

Today's verse was John 11:25, and we learned it really well as we sang the song "I Am the Resurrection."

Keeping with our Old West theme, we made sheriff badges at crafts and had trail mix at snack time.

SonWest Roundup VBS Day 2

Ultimate Power  Tonight we learned more about Moses as we explored Exodus 3:1-4:17 for our Bible story. We got to listen in as Moses and his brother Aaron discussed Moses' encounter with the burning bush. God displayed His power through the burning bush and the shepherd's staff that could turn into a snake.

We learned that God used His power to help Moses and that Jesus' power is big enough to help us--no matter what. For our Bible verse, we learned Jesus' words of John 16:33 "In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world."

Tonight we added a new song called "Stronger Than Anything" which has the words of John 16:33 as part of the chorus.

To help us remember how God's Ultimate Power can use ordinary things like a bush or a staff/snake, we colored wooden snakes during craft and had pretzel staffs at snack.

SonWest Roundup VBS Day 1

SonWest Roundup VBS started tonight. Join us each night as we travel the dusty trails of the wild, wild West to learn about Jesus and stories from Exodus as we work on our theme verse of Hebrews 13:8.

Ultimate Plan Tonight we started to learn about Moses by acting out the story of Moses as a baby in Exodus 1:1-2:10. We learned that God cared about the Israelites and sent Moses to help them and that God sent Jesus because He cares about us.

We learned the song "God Gave" at music time and made cowboy bandanas in crafts to remind us of tonight's verse of John 3:16. We also played a fun game and had straw bricks (rice krispie treats) for snack. It sure was a lot of fun!
